Estate timeline
Medieval
The First Foundations
A construction has existed on this site since the Middle Ages. The vaulted cellars that survive today — massive limestone arches spanning the entire footprint of the building — date from this earliest period, built to store provisions and withstand the centuries.
17th Century
A Louis XIII Château Rises
The medieval structure is replaced by an elegant Louis XIII-style building, flanked by large pavilions forming a harmonious ensemble. The southwest-facing façade features distinctive brick cross-patterns mixed with protruding cut stone. The slate roof with turrets marks the skyline of Bourbonnais. The grand vestibule, reception rooms, and the estate's architectural identity take shape.
Late 19th Century
The Grand Restoration
The château is comprehensively restored and redesigned. The grounds are transformed into a large English-style walled park, crossed by a stream that feeds two cascading ponds. Long paved avenues, great trees, vast allées, formal gardens, and a potager are established across what grows to 34 hectares of estate lands.
1943
The Archive Map
An archival map of the estate is drawn — documenting the buildings, courtyards, paths, park, meadows, woodlands, and water features. This map survives today and forms the basis of the estate's digital interactive map, a bridge between centuries of history and modern cartography.
2009
Comfort Meets Heritage
A major renovation by an interior architect restores the kitchen, bathrooms, electricity, and installs gas central heating on the ground floor (Riello boiler) and reversible air conditioning on the first floor. The second floor is entirely cleaned up and fitted with electricity and climate control — making all three levels habitable while preserving the château's historic character.
2020
The Custodian Arrives
Daniel Neshto takes up residence at the estate as bare owner (nu-propriétaire), beginning over five years of hands-on maintenance, renovation, and stewardship — securing the property, managing the grounds, and developing the vision for Domaine de Chazeuil's future as a luxury seasonal home.
2025–2026
A New Chapter Begins
The estate begins its transformation into a curated seasonal home for families and discerning travelers. Phase 1: the main house opens for spring–summer rentals (April–November 2026). Phase 2: three family apartments open in an adjacent manor house. The stables and gym begin renovation. The vision: to honour 400 years of history while creating a place where new stories begin. Not a hotel — a home that remembers you.
The Work Continues
History, still being written
The château has been restored, altered and repaired across four centuries. The current campaign is the latest chapter — scaffolding on the brick elevations, the walled garden cleared and replanted, the grand staircase brought back.
